Is this a private school? Is there tuition?

Sovereign Community School is a Public Charter School. Any student who is in the Oklahoma City area and in 6th and 9th grades beginning in August 2019 is welcome to attend.

What is a Public Charter School?

A charter school is a public school that has a central trade off: In exchange for more flexibility to innovate and try new things in the classroom and in school operations, the school has to produce stronger results for kids who need it most.

What grades will SCS serve and when does class start?

The Sovereign Community School will launch in August 2019 with a sixth grade and a ninth grade. In the fall of 2020 we will serve grades 6th, 7th, 9th & 10th. We intend to be a 6th -12th grade program at full-scale.

Do you need a CDIB or do you need to be Native to attend?

Our school is free and open to the public regardless of race, ethnicity, religious creed, gender, sexual orientation and tribal enrollment. Any student may enroll in our school and we believe all students would greatly benefit from our unique perspective on curriculum and content when compared to the typical middle and high school experience. Our school's curriculum gives particular care and attention to cultural relevancy for Indigenous students, but the content will absolutely cover the whole spectrum of people and experiences in the core curricular experience.
